As the mother of three children, she understands the tremendous faith that parents place in our schools.

As the spouse of a former educator, she understands the passion, grit, and goodwill that our teachers and administrators bring to their work every day.

As a public policy expert, she understands that the success of the Shawnee Mission Schools requires an open and engaged board.

Jessica is a fifth generation Kansan who has lived in Overland Park for the past eleven years. She attended Kansas State University where she won the Harry S Truman Scholarship, awarded annually to one Kansas college student with a demonstrated commitment to public service. After college, Hembree received her Masters in Public Affairs from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School. She married her high school sweetheart and together they have three sons, ages 9, 6, and 2.

She spent ten years as policy director at an area nonprofit organization focused on safety net health care, building healthy communities, and behavioral health. She recently founded her own small business.

Hembree is deeply involved in the community, having participated in the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce’s Centurions program and the Education Policy Fellowship. She was named a NextGen leader by the Kansas City Business Journal.
