For nearly 50 years, the Shawnee Mission School District has been dedicated to providing outstanding educational opportunities to all students. The Shawnee Mission School District is the third largest school district in Kansas with more than 27,000 students and 4,300 employees.
The South Area encompasses portions of Leawood, Overland Park and Lenexa. South area students attend Shawnee Mission South High School, Indian Woods Middle School and six elementary schools: Brookridge, Brookwood, John Diemer, Oak Park-Carpenter, Rosehill and most of the Trailwood attendance area. Students in the South area may also attend Horizons High School, the Early Childhood Education Center, and Signature Programs at the Center for Academic Achievement.
The district is consistently ranked among the finest school districts nationwide for its high student performance. Shawnee Mission serves a diverse student population from 14 cities within northeast Johnson County, Kansas.
